Universal Pictures announces Wheel of Time movie

ovvio che nn sarà come ognuno di noi si aspetta.
Una cosa brutta che miè capitata con il signore degli anelli, dopo che hanno fatto il film, che ogni volta che rileggevo il libro, in mente, mi veniva in mente Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) come era nel film, non come era nella mia mente (molto diverso), andando a perdere poi la versione che io avevo immaginato in testa


Sono scettico sul film, sappiamo come vanno a finire ste cose.
Fosse stata una serie a tv, fumetti (che ci sono) ecc... tutto porta a rovinare la nostra immaginazione, solo per vendere.

se ci si mette testa e passione potrebbe venire molto bene il tutto...

E' stata pubblicata un'intervista alla Red Eagle a proposito del film

troppo lungo al momento da leggere e tradurre. lo farò al mio ritorno dalla tappa roma-firenze

ho trovato una notizia su Fantasy magazine riguardo l'acquisto dei diritti per il film da parte della Red Eagle Entertainment (che spiega anche il perchè il fumetto di new spring sia stato abbandonato)...
Personalmente non fa altro che rendermi scettico sul film...

Non confondiamo le notizie con i "rumor da blogger"... quel tizio non c'entra nulla, e non c'è nessuna notizia sul cast o altro.
Prima di fare un casting ci sono un sacco di fasi preliminari per cui deve passare una produzione, non hanno ancora deciso nulla sugli attori, e se lo fanno stai certo che lo sapremo appena la cosa è pubblica.

Un adattamento per WoT è complesso rispetto a serie come il Signore degli Anelli poichè nella saga di Tolkien i complotti sono ridotti e vi si parano i blocchi di Sauron e di popoli alui opposti ,il mondo della Terra di Mezzo è piuttosto spopolato, cosa opposta in WoT dove vi sono resoconti dettagliati su nazioni ,casate ,fazioni ecc..) , il film potrebbe risultare adeguato( un adeguamento sul grande schermo sara fedele al 50-60% nelle piu' rossee aspettative) basta non cadere in flop come Eragorn(serie bella , film oltrggioso ).Io opterei perfare i primi 3 volumi (anche se vorrei vedere il resto ), dipendera tutto dalla capacità del regista e della produzione( che la Luce possa illuminarli).
Per una serie completa opteri per una trasposizione seiale che sarebbe quella piu' completa e fedele .

Il problema è che dicevano così anche per La Spada Della verità... e invece non c'entra NULLA con il romanzo di Goodkind.

A mio avviso non è il format importante... semplicemente le cose le si possono fare bene (LOTR) o male (Eragon, La spada della verità, La Bussola d'Oro, e diversi altri... sigh...)

For the record, our WOT movie project is alive and well.

We are still developing the screenplay, which I expect will be the most challenging part of making this picture. For this reason,I believe that we are at least two years or so away from a release, but unplanned events could either accelerate or delay our schedule.

Just understand that we are committed to keeping at it until we get it right. This means carefully striking the right balance between portraying the characters and events that all readers of the series know and love, while providing a compelling introduction to Jordan's world for any members of the movie audience who may never have heard (gasp!!!) of "The Wheel of Time."

I plan on attending the upcoming JordanCon event in Atlanta and I would welcome the opportunity to talk to further with any Theoryland'ers Dragonmount'ers[] about our WOT film project.

No no no, "realese" nel campo dell'entertainment è "l'uscita al pubblico" (che sia nelle sale cinematografiche o in negozio a seconda di che prodotto stiamo parlando) quindi quando si parla di release, di solito si intende, riguardo ai film, l'uscita al cinema.

Scusate il doppio post, ma Larry ci ha aggiornati.

A release date for our movie in 2013 is certainly possible, given the uncertain road that lies ahead. As any fan of The Wheel of Time knows, the future is exceedingly hard to predict (prophesy notwithstanding). We are clearly quite a ways behind the schedule I had in mind when I spoke at JordanCon last year. We are just beginning work on the screenplay, and we have not yet commenced any pre-production activities. Before anyone asks, there have been no major problems or setbacks; rather, the complicated and high-stakes business of making today's feature films sometimes results in wild periods of frenetic work, followed by prolonged periods of dormancy. Unfortunately, patience is a virtue that I sorely lack. On the plus side of the ledger, we now have a core creative team that I am thrilled to work with and our partner (Universal) is as excited as ever about making this picture.

As I have said many times before, in my view, the most important decision in making this movie will not be in our casting choices, the selection of the production team, the set design or the movie's visual effects, but rather, in determining the essence of the story that we will tell. And so, we are now in the process of deliberating each of a million and one creative choices as we decide how the begining of our journey with Rand and his friends can best be lifted from the black and white pages of Jordan's books and adapted to the strengths and limitations of the audiovisual medium of film. With each decision made, a piece of our picture comes together. And while I must confess that the pace up to this point has been all too slow for my liking, I believe in the the months ahead we will see major progress in the making of our film.

Da come parla Larry sembra ci tengano molto a rispettare le parti essenziali della saga, x cui speriamo bene si.
Cmq, vi faccio notare una cosa, Larry nel suo PM di dicembre diceva esattamente le stesse cose, ovvero che erano ancora impegnati con la sceneggiatura, quindi secondo me altro che due anni ci vorranno

A me Larry ispira fiducia, oltre che a essere uno della RE è anche un fan, quindi speriamo bene..

Per me la scelta migliore per il cast e` seguire la strada di LoTR - due/tre attori affermati, magari qualcuno gia` pratico del genere, + una barca di seconde e terze file.

Sul film, detto che in generale non sono entusiasta come ho scritto da qualche altra parte (meglio una serie TV), vi posso dire che, per il mio minimo di conoscenza dell'industria cinematografica, aver il film nei cinema nel 2013 mi pare perfino ottimista visto che stanno ancora lavorando sulla sceneggiatura, a meno che scelgano di usare effetti speciali a "basso costo", stile Troy od il recente Clash of the Titans, ed un team di produzione (regista/direttore fotografia/etc) con poca esperienza.


Penso che piu` che a rispettare la saga si preoccupino di come raccontare una storia avvincente - l'anno scorso a JordanCon Larry aveva discusso di combinare primo e secondo libro in un unico film perche` il primo e` un poco "debole" cinematograficamente parlando, specie nel finale. Mi piacerebbe poterci andare quest'anno ma ho troppe altre cose per le mani, peccato.

Nuove news da Larry Mondragon


After returning from the recent JordanCon event in Atlanta, I am both exhausted and inspired. I always learn a lot from the Wheel of Time community, and JordanCon gave me an opportunity to both share our progress on the movie project and also to hear what readers of Robert Jordan’s books would like to see in a big-screen adaption of their favorite fantasy series. It was good to be able to spend some time with Harriet at the event; she has truly been the guiding Light (yes, pun intended!) in the mammoth effort being made by Brandon Sanderson to complete Robert Jordan’s unfinished work. I also was fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend some quality time with Brandon, as we had a delightful discussion over dinner one evening about some ideas for the adaptation of The Eye of the World, and we were joined by Jason Denzel of Dragonmount, who has been consulting with Red Eagle for this film project.

On Saturday, I sat on a panel called “The Future of the Franchise,” and was joined by Jason and Melissa Craib-Dombroski of TarValon.net (who, I should add, also serves as the Online Community Director of our affiliate company, Red Eagle Games). Our primary mission was to address the future of Wheel of Time movies and video games, and also to cover the future of the literary series after the publication of A Memory of Light.

I wish more members of the Wheel of Time community could have experienced JordanCon first-hand, but for those who couldn’t make it to the *Con, I would like to share some key pieces of information about our ongoing movie project.

To begin, we (i.e., myself and my Red Eagle producing partner, Rick Selvage) did give ample consideration to the question as to whether the adaptation of the series would best be done in either film or television. We held discussions with many screenwriters, directors and studios regarding how this project ought to be produced, and what would be the most appropriate means to present the story to an audience consisting of long-time fans as well as persons who have never heard of The Wheel of Time series. After careful deliberation, we decided that a live-action feature film release would offer the best medium for bringing the characters and epic fantasy setting of Robert Jordan’s work to life. Yes, we do recognize that film does have some limitations, but it also offers a wealth of production resources and other advantages that television simply can’t match (generally better production and on-screen talent, better quality due to longer production time, superior budget and the ability to tell a complete story without the threat of being summarily axed by a network over low ratings).

I’m not sure where the idea about Red Eagle Entertainment and Universal Pictures making three Wheel of Time movies came from (I should check Snopes to see where this urban legend originated). The fact is we are working to make a single movie based upon The Eye of the World. All of our efforts are focused on making one great picture, and it would be presumptuous for us to look to the future before the audience has had the chance to judge the very first film (kind of like a baseball player who is lost in thought about how he will round third base before he has even hit the ball). It goes without saying that we are working hard to ensure that we will build appropriate points of continuity into our screenplay, so that we will be able to continue the story in a sequel picture, if the Light wills it so. Therefore, if we are successful, we should have the ability to continue the story of Rand and his friends well into the future. For the moment however, our eyes are squarely on Job #1-- getting the first film done right.

A fan of the series can rightly ask how we intend to fit an 800 page novel into a 120 page screenplay. Clearly, this won’t be easy. However, we have a significant advantage in using a visual medium that will enable us to take an entire chapter of descriptive narrative from the novel (say, the escape from Shadar Logoth or Thom’s apparent death at the hands of the Myddraal or Perrin’s feral rage as he unsuccessfully tries to fight off the Whitecloaks) and visually present this in a powerful scene or two. That being said, there most certainly will have to be some elements of the story edited, cut, abbreviated or compressed in order to fit within the time constraints of the movie format. Before letting loose your groans, please understand that we do know that done poorly, a movie adaptation of fantasy novel can be beautiful to the eye, but excruciating and incomprehensible to follow (did anyone else want their ticket money back after having seen The Golden Compass?). I strongly believe that what is important in our story is not the litany of events or minor characters described in the novel, but rather, the coming of age of five young friends (Rand, Egwene, Perrin, Mat and Nynaeve), as they leave their sheltered lives in the Two Rivers and embark upon a journey of self-discovery in which they must overcome their fears while accepting and embracing their unique individual talents in order to serve a greater good. In my way of thinking, our great task is to establish strong, identifiable characters who each face choices that will alter the rest of their lives, and in so doing, the fate of the world.

I’m sure that I have broken some hearts, having definitively revealed that we are not making a 19-hour movie that will include every supper-song, Darkfriend and skinny inn keeper portrayed in The Eye of the World. For that, I’m truly sorry. However, I expect that those in The Wheel of Time community who give our finished film a chance will discover that our adaptation will prove to be faithful to the characters and main plotlines of the novel, while bringing forth an exciting visual perspective to this wonderful world that Robert Jordan (and his talented proxy, Brandon Sanderson) have given to us.

Ehi! Mai notizia fu meglio accolta!!! Che bello. Credo che più di un film sul primo libro non se ne doveva fare, e qualcosa dovrà per forza essere tagliato, ma ho fiducia in qualcuno che, come mi pare di capire, apprezza la saga ed è in stretto contatto con BS e l'entourage di RJ. Se non finisce il mondo, allora andremo al cinema!!!
